I am in a book!
Today I had the remarkable experience of walking into a bookstore and finding a book with my name on it. The Best Canadian Essays 2011 is out now, featuring my essay “Love is a Let-Down”, along with other essays by writers including Caroline Adderson, Mark Kingwell, Stephen Marche, David Mason and Barbara Stewart*. The Best Canadian Essays series editor is Christopher Doda, issue editor is Ibi Kaslik, and I’m so honoured that they’ve included my work in this collection. Though I must admit that part of the thrill is the idea of being in a book at all. Me! In a book! Which is more than kind of a dream come true.

November 17th, 2011 at 8:59 AMCongratulaions kerry- a well deserved recognition for a great essay on the realities of motherhood experience-always loved your amazing title-everytime I hear it , Pat Benator’s Love is a Battlefield goes thru my head…which is apt connection to your essay because it explores a mother’s personal “internal” war about maternal anticipation and maternal ambivalence (and one that is often perceived STILL as taboo to discuss in public -and relates it to the great writing on topic by Laurie Colwin and Rachel Cusk-two writers I LOVE!

Congratulations, Kerry. I’m so thrilled for you. The first time one see’s one’s name in print, in a real bona fide book – the thrill is almost indescribable. I know there will be more books with you in it in the future, but treasure this one, because it is your first.
Can’t wait to get my copy, and have the author sign it!
